More than 20 restaurants will serve up tasty samples at the 10th Annual Taste of 2010 fundraiser, hosted by the Nativity Outreach Food Pantry and Food Bank.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 25, from 5-8 p.m. in the Nativity Church social hall. Tickets, $10 in advance and $15 at the door, will go on sale Saturday, August 21, and can be purchased at the church office and following weekend masses. Tickets for children ages 4 to 8 are $5 and children under 3 are free.
Taste of 2010 organizers Tess Falkenbach, Carl Falkenbach, Sue Hrabusa and more than 100 volunteers are putting the finishing touches on the event and are hoping for another successful fundraiser. “We serve 120-130 families a week,” said Falkenbach, referring to the Thursday Nativity Food Pantry distribution. “All the money raised at the Taste goes directly to the Food Bank, which also supports 50 other churches in Hillsborough County to help them fill their food pantries, as well as warehouse and overhead expenses and the purchase of eggs and produce.”
According to Falkenbach, last year’s event raised more than $7,000. Although the Food Bank provides food to many families in Hillsborough County, it doesn’t receive any county funding. “All our donations come from the generosity of our parishioners and grants,” said Falkenback. “Also, Publix is also our biggest contributor of food and toiletry items, as well as Sweetbay”.
The Taste of 2010 organizers encourage families to dine out on Saturday, September 25, to get a taste of the various restaurants in the Brandon area and support the food bank.
“There will be different booths set up, and you can move from restaurant to restaurant and sample all the different foods,” Falkenbach said. “It’s a great chance to sample a new restaurant if you’ve never eaten there before, and music entertainment and raffles are also scheduled for the event.”
