As the Tuesday, November 2, election countdown continues, the theme “Meet the Candidates, Know the Issues” has been appropriately chosen for an upcoming candidate Meet & Greet event scheduled to be held on Tuesday, October 5, at the Palmetto Club in FishHawk Ranch.
Hosted by The FishHawk Ranch Homeowners’ Association (HOA) and the Palmetto Club, the event is the first of its kind in the club’s relatively short history, but considered by all involved as an important addition to the election process.
“The FishHawk Ranch HOA, as well as the Palmetto Club, believes that it is imperative for citizens to understand who they are voting for,” said FishHawk Ranch by Newland Communities Event Coordinator Jennifer Palermo. “Since the Palmetto Club falls within Precinct 701, one of the largest precincts in the county, we felt it would be a great opportunity to enlighten nearby voters.”
Palmetto Club Coordinator Lucille Hanson agreed and said that the Club is a means for residents to be certain that they are making the most informed decision possible.
“I, myself, find the amendments very confusing, and trying to read them on the day of the election, you feel rushed,” Hanson said. “We thought giving the residents an opportunity to look them over before would vastly help in the understanding of them.”
DaSilva’s Coffee House and Roastery lined up to provide coffee and tea for the free community event. The Meet & Greet is designed to enlighten the voters as candidates, regardless of party affiliation or political views, running for public office on the national, state or local level in Hillsborough County, have been invited to attend.
Citizens are encouraged to come prepared with their questions as the Meet and Greet will begin at 7 p.m. inside the Palmetto Club Grand Ballroom, Palermo said. The Supervisor of Elections will provide attendees with a copy of the amendments to review.
Candidates are scheduled to speak briefly about their qualifications and goals if elected. For more information, please visit www.FishHawkConnect.com, or call 657-0062.
