Unlike other productions at Durant Drama, this one is special. The reason is that the cast is made up mostly of teachers and staff. “I have always wanted to stage a production that was mostly teachers,” says Mason. “I have done productions with my students, and I have had one or two teachers in the show, but this is the first one that the cast is dominated by educators,” added Mason.
Laura Estes, an English teacher at Durant who plays Madam Mysteria in the show said, “This is a great little piece with a lot of great parts. It has been fun to work on, and we expect an entertaining evening.”
“Ghostchasers,” written by Tim Kelly, tells the story of the Hangtown Asylum for Extremely Tense People. The asylum sits on Vulture Lane on the outskirts of town. Lots of unusual things are happening at Hangtown such as a zombie parades the grounds; Madam Mysteria feels spirits; soldiers are on maneuvers; Dr. Roy takes your pulse with a stethoscope; and worst of all, there is a poltergeist on the loose.
The production has many great characters and each adds a twist and raises questions during the show. There is Harriet Hollyhock who, while on a layover, visits the asylum to visit her cousin, Dr. Roy. Is Dr. Roy really a doctor? When the poltergeist attacks, The Ghostchasers, led by Honcho and his student ghostchasers, set out to capture the spirit with a plethora of untested inventions. Will the Ghostchasers be able to capture the poltergeist?
You will have a great time finding out the answers to the questions and more. “We try to deliver quality, entertaining theatre at a reasonable cost. We always put our audiences first, and our goal is to entertain them,” said Mason.
