Moovies for Boobies, Chicks for Charity’s October event, raised more than $8,000 to go towards breast cancer awareness. Founder Tammy Holmberg (r) stands with Brandon Regional Hospital CEO Mike Fencel.

Whether it is dressing up, working out, stepping up or stepping in, members of Chicks for Charity are working to give back to the Brandon community whenever possible.
Tammy Holmberg, co-owner of Chick-fil-A at Lake Brandon Village, was inspired to start up the gathering of women doing good, as a part of her Honorary Mayor’s campaign in 2008-09. The events Holmberg held during her campaign were so popular that she decided to continue hosting events, such as Ladies Movie Night, Sketch and Sip Classes, Bunco and, now in its third year, the Chicks Cruisin’ For a Cause cruise.
Chicks for Charity have helped some worthy local charities and as the popularity has grown, so has the impact it has been able to make on the community.
The group is not like most other clubs or organizations, as being a member does not require any dues payments and there are no meetings.
“It is a gathering of like-minded local women who support our local charities here in Brandon, we like to get together, and have fun and help a charity, that is what we are all about,” said Holmberg.
The group, sponsored by businesses like Chick-fil-A, Green Boutique and many more, is simply dedicated to hosting events and raising money for worthy causes, such as the recent Moovies for Boobies event held in October, which raised money for breast cancer awareness by partnering with The American Cancer Association, Vera Bradley Foundation and about 35 other local businesses who continue to contribute to causes with time, effort and gift certificates.
Other than the events happening in the Brandon community throughout the year, Chicks for Charities also goes on its annual cruise. Like the name implies, the cruise is a “ladies only” opportunity for women to have a little fun and do a lot of good for a charity. On the first cruise in 2010, ladies raised money for Center Place’s children’s art programs and, in 2011, the money raised went towards the Y’s Build Strong Kids campaign.
This year’s three-night cruise, leaving Port Canaveral on Friday, May 18, is raising money for A Kid’s Place. Holmberg is confident that the cruise can be even more successful.
