The GFWC Brandon Service League proudly distributed over $13,000 to 18 local organizations and schools at its 28th Annual Country Jamboree earlier this month.
Earlier this month, the GFWC Brandon Service League held its 28th Annual “Denim & Diamond” Country Jamboree at Lupton’s Boggy Bottom Ranch in Plant City. This event is a celebration of fellowship and service to the community. At the Jamboree, the GFWC Brandon Service League presents checks to area nonprofits and schools. This year $13,000 was distributed.
The organizations who received checks from the GFWC Brandon Service League included Boys & Girls Club of Brandon; six Brandon area high school Art Departments; Brandon Outreach Clinic; Everyday Blessings, ECHO; I Am Hope Cafe; A Kid’s Place; Life Care Center of Brandon; New Horizons Group Homes, Inc.; Southeastern Guide Dogs; ACS’ R.O.C.K Camp; Brandon Women’s Resource Center and Mann Middle School.
Many of the organizations have been supported by the GFWC Brandon Service League for many years. This year, Mann Middle School was included due to the great need that they have helping an ever-increasing population of homeless children.
The money was raised through ticket sales to the GFWC Brandon Service League’s Holiday Home Tour, which is held each December.
Candy Jackson, president of the GFWC Brandon Service League, said, “The mission of the Brandon Service League is ‘Service to our Community.’” Jackson added, “The Brandon Service League consists of service-minded women from the Brandon community who tirelessly give of their time and talents to support the citizens of the greater Brandon area. It is their generous ‘heart of service’ that makes all of this possible.”
The GFWC Brandon Service League was established more than 50 years ago. Over that time, the members have been active in service to the community which includes raising money for nonprofits and schools and conducting hands on service projects.
Several members of the Brandon Service League who were a part of the very first Country Jamboree back in 1984 were on hand at this year’s event.
The GFWC Brandon Service League meets the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Brandon Women’s Club, located at 129 N. Moon Ave. in Brandon. For more information, please visit www.gfwcbrandonserviceleague.org.
