Parents Get Kitchen Tour at Barrington Middle and Stowers Elementary School
The district’s Student Nutrition Services department gave parents of students attending Barrington Middle and Stowers Elementary school a chance to get behind the lunch counter of the two school’s shared cafeteria last month.
As part of the tour, District Chef Ben Guggenmos demonstrated healthy school lunch recipes and provide samples.
The tours were part of an open house night. District officials said that more kitchen tours will be given at area schools throughout the school year.
State Farm Joins Hillsborough Education Foundation to Promote Safe Driving Among Teens through Award Mini-Grants
Thanks to a partnership with the Hillsborough Education Foundation and State Farm Insurance public high schools in Hillsborough County can apply for mini-grants to promote safe driving among teens.
Through the Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that to date boasts of investing more than $85 million towards public education to help students achieve academic success, State Farm will award grants to schools from $250 to $500 for their students totaling $6,250.
The funds are to help develop projects that communicate the new driver experience, including the perks and responsibilities that follow when a teen receives a driver’s license.

District Leads the State in Number of National Achievement Semifinalists 19 Seniors Named to List
Nineteen high school seniors in Hillsborough County Public Schools have been named National Achievement Scholar semifinalists, placing them among the highest achieving African American students in the nation.
The total of 19 semifinalists is the highest number in the state, and tops the number for Hillsborough County last year when 14 students earned the honor.
The National Achievement Scholar semifinalists come from nine different high schools. Strawberry Crest High School led the way in Hillsborough, with four semifinalists.
The National Achievement Scholarship Program honors scholastically talented African American high school seniors across the nation. In January, the semifinalists will learn whether they advance as finalists and qualify for scholarship awards.The semifinalists are:

Boyette Springs To Host veteran’s Day Ceremony
Boyette Springs Elementary School administration was pleased to announce that in keeping with its tradition, the school will be honoring Veterans’ Day on November 9, 2012 from 8:25 -9:00 with a school wide ceremony.
“This will be an exciting day,” said second grade teacher Melanie Causey. “For the program ‘s conclusion we are going to have the students whose parents are being honored join them in singing God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood while presenting them with a patriotic bear.”
