RC pilots and anyone interested in learning about or flying a radio-controlled plane have a chance to enjoy not one, but two days of one of the year’s biggest electric events in RC Aviation, to be hosted this month at Triple Creek RC Club (TCRC).

Officials recently announced that preparations for the second annual WATTFEST, an RC aviation extravaganza featuring dozens of planes to be held at the TCRC flying field located at 12703 Balm Boyette Road in Riverview, have been in the making for some time, and is now scheduled for the weekend of October 13 and 14.

A full day of activities is planned for Saturday October 14,  from 8 a.m- p.m., and a shorter day for Sunday from 8 a.m- 3 p.m.

According TCRC Club president Gene Garand, due to popular demand the program was expanded to a two-day event this year.

“This is the electric RC Event of the year,” Garand said. “If you’re going to attend any electric event, this is the one.”

Gyrocopters, helicopters, gliders, and anything else that can fly via electric power is welcome to participate. As it has been the case in previous years, there will be prizes and awards, not to mention the TCRC crew cooking throughout the day.

Along with the Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department, the Triple Creek RC club offers a beautifully maintained 8 acre, first class flying location with a 350’x35’ asphalt runway, an onsite kitchen, covered sitting and work areas and plenty of electric plugs.

The facility also boasts of a group of friendly, dedicated and knowledgeable RC pilots to help those interested in learning to fly.

Garand said that the TCRC club was started by two area clubs that brought their years of knowledge together to develop the club as it now functions in Riverview.

TCRC will also host the Fall Classic Helicopter Fly-In, the club’s biggest fall helicopter event with pilots attending from all over the Southeast.

Scheduled for Saturday, October 27 2012 starting at 9 a.m., this event also promises to entertain all in attendance.
