The East Bay High School Choral Group entertained the Apollo Beach Woman’s Club (ABWC) at their annual Christmas Luncheon in December with a variety of numbers. Their joyful singing, dancing and playful enthusiasm exemplified the holiday spirit.
Because of the generosity of the ladies in the Club, Christmas was much brighter for two Apollo Beach families, who opened presents selected especially for them by members of the Club. ABWC members purchased gifts of clothes, shoes and toys for the two families, one with children attending Apollo Beach Elementary School, and the other with children at Dobie Elementary, also located in Apollo Beach.
The Christmas giving effort was led by Beverly Fletchall and Marcia Ward, who co-chair community service activities for the more than 164 ABWC members.
Packages were wrapped and delivered to the December ABWC meeting. In addition, some members contributed gifts of cash, which was used to purchase supermarket gift certificates for the two families.
Guidance counselors at each of the elementary schools selected the two families for the Christmas service project based on need.
“It is amazing to see what our members have done, these families will have a wonderful Christmas” Fletchall said.
Poinsettia sale event organizer Roz Hensor had orders for 254 plants to benefit the annual scholarship fund awarded annually at the end of the school year to students from Apollo Beach families. Dottie Drouin, Co-chair and Betty Alexander helped deliver the plants to members.
President Judy Peck will preside at the next luncheon/meeting, to honor the Longevity of members, Wednesday, January 9 at Little Harbor in Ruskin. Luncheon reservations must be made and paid for by Friday January 4 ($16) by contacting Deanna Anest at 938-3641 or email hookr06@hotmail.com.
