As students adjust to their school routine this fall, so does the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, gearing up for another busy season with a full list of programs including the center’s second annual Dash and Splash Aquathon.

Scheduled for Saturday, September 14, the run-swim-run event, which proved successful enough the first time around to be held again this year, will include a chipped 5K run as well for non-swimmers.

“This was a very unique event last year for the Brandon area, but a huge success for us despite the day’s thunderstorms,” said BSAC spokesperson, Lori Bukaweski.

Proceeds from the event will go toward youth drowning prevention to help the center provide swim lessons and water safety instruction for the children of families who cannot afford them.

The adult race is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. with the kids’ race at 8:30 a.m.

Bukaweski emphasized that residents are also in for an extra treat as this year’s fun-filled day will feature a special cannonball competition, immediately following the Dash and Splash Awards Ceremony.

“The event will serve as BSAC’s first annual Cannonballapalooza, for the Brandon community,” she said.

Singles, teams, tandem jumps and more will be executed and assigned points by some of the center’s best local celebrity judges, complete with Olympic style opening and closing ceremonies.

Entree fees cost $20 (Single), team of two $35, and team of four $60.

Open family swim will be free for the community, and the fun will continue with a DJ, a beverage tent and the food trucks. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

BSAC is a community-based 501c3 nonprofit organization, located at 405 Beverly Blvd. in

Brandon, with a purpose to impact lives daily through superior educational and athletic programming that enhances physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Earlier this year, the center commemorated a major achievement by celebrating five decades of serving the community.

“Our success is due to our commitment to this community and our focus on quality programming at affordable prices,” said BSAC Executive Director, Chuck Burgess. “Parents bring their children here for superior educational and athletic programming. Our facility is a place where they can thrive and learn to make lifetime fitness choices among positive peer influences.”
