When Valrico native Bridget Jenkins-Wilson returned home from escorting her World War II veteran on a daytrip to D.C. with Honor Flight in October, she knew that her involvement with the non-profit organization was just beginning.
Honor Flight of West Central Florida has taken on the mission to fly every local World War II veteran to Washington, D.C. on a free day trip to see their memorial. Each veteran is paired with a local guardian whose sole purpose for the day is to pamper the veteran, listen to their stories and return them home safely.
Jenkins-Wilson and father, Roger, were both guardians together on the October flight which took 80 WWII vets and 80 guardians on a day trip of a lifetime.
“This is one of the most meaningful and incredible things I have ever done,” described Jenkins-Wilson.
“When we got home and I found out there are 300 more WWII veterans on waiting lists waiting for the opportunity to participate in this trip, I knew we needed to do something.”
So Jenkins-Wilson and her family business, Cardinal Roofing, committed to hosting a Sporting Clays Events at FishHawk Sporting Clays on Saturday, March 22, at 9 a.m. to support the Mission #18, May 24 flight for 80 additional WWII veterans.
Sponsorships start at $100 for a Station Sponsor to have signage at a shooting station, other sponsorships are also available. Goodie bag items and raffle baskets also welcome. In addition, Veteran Ribbons are available for $20 for display around the event in honor of local veterans.
