GFWClogoOn Saturday, April 5, the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Brandon Service League held its 29th Annual Spring Fundraiser at the Fraternal Order of Police Hall in Seffner. The event was an opportunity for the club to honor their 2013 Holiday Home Tour Charities and present checks to local non-profit organizations.

The GFWC Brandon Service League donated money to the Boys and Girls Club of Brandon, Brandon Outreach Clinic, Emergency Care Help Organization, Life Care Center of Brandon, I Am Hope Café, New Horizons Group Homes, Southeastern Guide Dogs, Boggy Creek (formerly known as ROCK Camp), San Jose Home Makers and the Sylvia Thomas Center. In addition, money was donated to the arts department of six area high schools including Armwood, Bloomingdale, Brandon, Durant, Newsome and Riverview. Members of the GFWC Brandon Service League will be making an in-person donation of food and supplies to Hillsborough Animal Services.

For over 50 years, the GFWC Brandon Service League has been committed to helping the community in a variety of ways. The donation to non-profits and the arts departments of area high schools is just one of the ways they help, but it is significant in its impact.

Diane Burnette, Second Vice President of GFWC Brandon Service League said, “Our board researches the charities in the Brandon area and assesses their needs including the need for additional funds, and looks at how they help our community.” Bunette said, “As a Brandon resident for 23 years and a Tampa native, it is very rewarding to know that our club’s efforts help the needy in our community. I believe many of our members know what it is like to have had struggles at some point in their lives. The work that the members put forth helps those who are struggling. ”

The money, which the club generously donates, is raised through ticket sales to the GFWC Brandon Service League’s Holiday Home Tour, which is held each December. The 2014 Holiday Home Tour is scheduled for Saturday, December 6.  Individuals interested in having their home featured on the tour can contact Bradlee Swanson at bradleep6@gmail.com.
