FamilyPRomiseLogoMany families in the community struggle to stay ahead in today’s economy. They face daily decisions of paying their bills or feeding their family. Some families end up losing the struggle and become homeless. Family Promise of Greater Brandon wants those in need in the community to know that it is here to help.

“The goal of Family Promise of Greater Brandon is to partner with homeless families to help them regain their independence and find permanent housing,” said Kathy Brogli, the organization’s executive director. “We strive to empower families to keep their housing after the program, not merely to help them in the short-term.”

Family Promise is a national non-profit that has been in business for over 26 years. There are approximately 182 affiliates nationwide. Family Promise of Greater Brandon is an affiliate of Family Promise National.

“Family Promise partners with area Christian churches to utilize their space and volunteers to provide the temporary housing aspect,” Brogli said. “Family Promise staff provides case management, as well as assistance with job placement, obtaining housing assistance and housing placement.”

The families who have been helped by Family Promise of Greater Brandon have been very pleased and thankful for what the organization has provided for them.

“The families have told us that the organization has been able to give them a safe place to live that was stable for their children,” Brogli said.

Even though the organization helps those in need, they also need assistance from the community.

“We need funding for a new roof on our Day Center and maintenance on our Family Promise van, as well as gas cards and bus passes,” Brogli said.

The organization is hosting a golf tournament called Tee Off in Tuscany on Thursday, November 6 from 7-10 p.m. at The Barn at Winthrop in Riverview. It is looking for event sponsors and golfers for this event.

The organization will also be hosting a table at the Heifer International fundraiser at First Presbyterian Church in Brandon on Wednesday, November 19 from 6-8 p.m. Attendees will be able to donate to the organization to help with their needs.
