NewHorizionsLogoNew Horizons Group Homes will hold its 20th annual barbeque and silent auction on Saturday, November 1 from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Central Baptist Christian School gymnasium, located at 402 E. Windhorst Rd. in Brandon.

This is the major fundraiser for New Horizons, a non-profit organization that operates two homes for developmentally challenged adults, all of whom work in the community or in sheltered workshops.

The meal includes a pulled pork barbecue sandwich with potato salad, baked beans, beverage and dessert, and will be catered by Lil’ Taste of Country. Tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door.  All proceeds from silent auction items will go to New Horizons Group Homes. This year’s entertainment will be the Dennis Lee Show, mixing music and comedy. Stephanie Simon, violinist and guitarist Andy Peavyhouse will also perform.

Board of Director President Peter Watkins said, “Our residents feel blessed to live in Brandon and be a part of such a caring community. They, as well as their families and the board of directors, are looking forward to enjoying a delightful afternoon with their many friends.”

Tickets will be available for sale on Saturday, October 25 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Publix at Valrico Commons, 1930 S.R. 60 E. in Valrico and also the Winn Dixie, 1971 S.R. 60 E. in Valrico.

Old keepsake ornaments are still available for sale for $10, and will be available at the BBQ. Ornaments still available include Old Brandon School, Sharrar’s General Store, Brandon Woman’s Club, First Baptist Church Brandon, Valrico Civic Center, Brandon Supply Company and more. They are also available at the following locations:  Age’s Art & Frame, Bill’s Prescription Center, First Baptist Church Brandon, Greg’s Hallmark, Martin’s Jewelers, Rainbow Engraving, The Frame Shop & Gallery, and Victorian Grace Tea Room. These friends of New Horizons receive no compensation from the sale. All proceeds go to New Horizons. Individuals unable to find a specific ornament, call Brenda Watkins at 653-2466.
