Selecting the right dentist and orthodontist for your child is an important decision. While most use personal references or online reviews, it is equally important for the office to have a convenient location.
Busciglio Smiles, a family owned and operated practice since 1972, provides uniquely certified doctors and offers three office locations: Brandon, FishHawk and Plant City. Dr. John Busciglio, the original practice owner, was a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Mass.
Two of Busciglio’s six children followed in his footsteps, both graduating from Tufts and now running the practice. Derek M. Busciglio, DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry), offers effective and innovative orthodontic care, and is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dana Busciglio, DMD, studied pediatric dentistry at Nova Southeastern University and earned a Master of Science (MS) in dentistry with specialization in orthodontics. She is the only pediatric dentist/orthodontist in the Tampa Bay Area. Both Dr. Derek M. Busciglio Smiles offers a wide variety of treatment options, and the doctors and staff take care to educate both parents and children on check-up and treatment procedures. Their behavior management strategies strive to offer children a positive experience that will minimize the anxiety associated with dental or orthodontic treatments and encourage them to return. While their practice is aimed primarily at pediatric clientele, doctors offer orthodontic treatment for adults as well.
Coordinator Rhonda Hodges, formerly a dental assistant, stressed the importance of their family-friendly atmosphere. “We want kids to feel at home here like they own the place. We know our patients’ names and what’s going on in their lives, not just their individual treatment plan,” she said.
Lithia Ranch resident Katie Cafaro’s three children have all received orthodontic care at Busciglio Smiles for more than two years. “They know my children, they know me and the doctor has a complete understanding of complicated cases,” Cafaro said.
