Staff Report
Bridget Jenkins Wilson and her father Roger Jenkins, along with Chad Curchin, owners of Cardinal Roofing in Valrico, are hosting the Third Annual Shoot for Those Who Shot for US on Friday, February 12 at FishHawk Sporting Clays, located at 13505 Hobson Simmons Rd. in Lithia. Proceeds from the event benefits Honor Flight of West Central Florida. Wilson and Jenkins began their involvement with the charity after being introduced to Honor Flight through other local businesses; Chick-fil-A, Dynamic Painting, Canine Cabana, Rob Z and the Osprey Observer. After being guardians on the October 2013 flight, Wilson said, “We were so inspired by it that when we got back, we decided to make Honor Flight Cardinal Roofing’s philanthropic focus.”
Honor Flight of West Central Florida was established in 2010 and flies veterans to Washington D.C. to see their memorials. They come home to a hero’s welcome and are accompanied by a guardian for the day to be pampered and doted on. There are an estimated 32,000 veterans in West Central Florida.
This year, Cardinal Roofing has partnered with Southeastern Metals (SEMCO) A Gibraltar Industries Company, who has graciously offered to be a matching sponsor. They will match, dollar for dollar, funds raised on the Sporting Clays day. SEMCO was a sponsor at last year’s event and sent a team to shoot.
Last year, Cardinal Roofing almost made it to the $10,000 mark and it hopes to reach $15,000 this year.
Shoot for Those Who Shot for US is currently registering teams and individuals for the event. A team of four can register for $600 or individuals can register for $150.
Registration includes 50 clays, goody bag, shells and golf cart.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. In addition there will be a silent auction, raffle and 50/50 raffle. All of proceeds from the event will be donated to Honor Flight. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and shooting begins at 12 Noon. To register for the Clay Shoot, visit cardinalroofinghonorflight .tinanewberry.com.
