The New Year is starting off swimmingly at the Apollo Beach Racquet and Fitness Club (ABRFC) thanks to a partnership with Team Velocity, a USA Swimming sanctioned team.

“Team Velocity has an excellent reputation and we are pleased to expand our program to include competitive age group swimming,” said ABRFC Owner Logan C Sultenfuss. “Their commitment to inspiring student athletes to achieve measurable success in sport and development of character is a perfect complement to our fun and family-friendly environment.”

Launching its second branch, Team Velocity was also eager to bring its program to the southeastern part of Hillsborough County, and is now excited to join forces with ABRFC, located at 6520 Richies Way in Apollo Beach.
The family owned and operated fitness center and sport camp has long been known for its excellence in swimming and water safety skills instruction, while serving the Apollo Beach community for the past 25 years.

It was for this reason that Team Velocity Head Coach Gary Lee Goodner II, a Developmental, Age Group, and Senior level ASCA-certified professional swim coach, called the team’s newest location “a natural fit for the swimming program.”

In its first year of operation, Team Velocity grew its membership to 120 swimmers and rose to being one of the top 30 swim clubs in Florida.

Besides the perfect fit, timing of the partnership has also hit the mark, as Team Velocity not only has the infrastructure in place to branch out, but also boast of acquiring the talents of renowned swim coach Don LaMont.

LaMont brings more than 25 years of coaching experience to the Apollo Beach community, including coaching of the USC women’s swim team and coaching 17 All-Americans and 13 Olympians. LaMont is a member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Hall of Fame.

Swim team tryouts and evaluations for group placement are held most Saturdays at 10 a.m. Coach Don can be reached at 681-8636 or dlamontcoach@aol.com regarding tryouts.

The Apollo Beach Racquet and Fitness Club and Team Velocity each look forward to extending a warm welcome to all new members.
