Staff Report
The SouthShore Chamber of Commerce which held its annual Membership Awards Banquet last month at the SouthShore Falls Clubhouse in Apollo Beach was a roaring success. With the Roaring 20’s as its theme, the outgoing 2015 President Dr. Allen Witt, who is Campus President for HCC SouthShore, passed the gavel on to Incoming 2016 President Joey Henderson. Henderson joined Florida Home Partnership (FHP) in 2011 as the Community Development Manager focused on marketing and public relations. Active in the community, he has served on several other boards throughout Tampa Bay. Other board members include Jason Fredricks, Carrie Elwell, Steve Alvarez, Joe Kline, Deb Adams, Dee Fridella, Khalid Abouelhouda, Shawn Geitner, Ron Simpson, Charlie Lewis, Sherell Bennett, Melanie Morrison (executive director of the SouthShore Chamber), Georgia Vahue and Tony Zipperer.
“The annual banquet gives us the opportunity to recognize the efforts of so many of our great members. There are so many deserving businesses and individuals- it’s always hard to narrow it down to only 3 nominees,” said Melanie Morrison, executive director.
Prior to the Awards Banquet, a luncheon was held in January and the 2016 Remarkable Residents, Queena Vuong and Audrey Mabrey, both received commendations from the Hillsborough County Commissioners office at the SouthShore Chamber. Jeffrey Huggins, Legislative Aid to Sandra Murman, attended the luncheon to present both of these inspirational women with special commendations.
The candidates for the 2016 Honorary Mayor’s race were recognized: Scott Kenny of Ohhh So Nifty was named the 2016 Honorary Mayor raising the most funds for his charity of choice; The American Cancer Society.
Heather Barr from C1 Bank, whose charity was the Ruskin VFW, and Jason Fredricks from Legal Shred, who fundraised for the Good Samaritan Mission in Wimauma also participated in the Mayor’s Race.
