By Julie Williams
Derrick Williams, pianist, vocalist and gospel jazz artist, can be seen every Saturday night on The Christian Television Network (CTN) where he has hosted a successful music TV show, The Gospel Voice, for the past eight years. His songs have an extraordinary blend of contemporary gospel music fused with jazz, funk, rock, and rhythm & blues, but if you make a request for an “old time” favorite, his traditional Southern Baptist roots will always bring him back home.
The success of the TV show has warranted the investment of a series of concerts taking “the show on the road” titled The Gospel Voice Tour.
The first concert is scheduled on Sunday, April 10 at 6 p.m. (doors open 5:30 p.m.) at The Grace Place, 732 W. Lumsden Rd. in Brandon.
A portion of the net proceeds will be donated to New Day Church, which meets at The Grace Place, and its Homeless Ministry, which affiliates with the East Hillsborough County Homeless Coalition and Impact Church in Lakeland. Williams wants to use his voice as a platform to give back to the community.
Concert tickets are $10 in advance, $15 VIP seating, (front row and a free digital download), and $12 the day of the event online and at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at www.itickets.com by visiting www.thegospel voicetvshow.com.
The blessings continue to rain on Williams as he continues his music ministry with the release of his new single Shower Me, a funky upbeat track available to purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. His new CD titled I’ll Go will be released in April. The CD offers a variety of musical styles from jazz, funk, to rock and will include a duet titled A Good Day with his 11-year-old daughter, Jordan Williams, who also sings in The Gospel Voice Band. The song will be released in honor of the famous daughter dad duo the late Natalie Cole and her father Nat King Cole. The Williams are poised to be the next dad/daughter duo to hit the music scene.
