Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call this morning about a fatal shooting on East Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Forbes Road in Plant City.
According to investigators, the shooting is the result of a road rage altercation between two motorists, which came to a head at the intersection. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found one man on the road suffering from a gunshot wound while a second man, who was identified as the shooter, was performing CPR on the victim.
During a media briefing, Col. Donna Lusczynski with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said that the victim reportedly stopped his car in front of the other subject, got out, and an argument ensued between the two people. The victim, described as a male, approximately 40 years old, was then shot and died at the scene. Deputies have not yet released the identity of the victim. Officials are processing the crime scene and interviewing the shooter.
“Don’t engage with people, and don’t get into some type of confrontation. It’s not worth anybody’s life,” Col. Lusczynski said. “It’s not worth it over being a few minutes late to work or school. Just drive by and ignore the person.”
The state attorney is on scene to determine the actions of the case. As of this morning (Wednesday, August 10) no charges have been filed in this case.
MLK Jr. Boulevard is blocked both ways at Forbes Road.
Updates to come as they become available.
