Have you ever questioned just how in the world those huge airplanes defy gravity and get off the ground to fly? The law of gravity never ceases to operate as it pulls down on every object on the earth. Gravity is so unforgiving that if an object or person, if possible, feel into Kola, the world’s deepest bore hole, they’d travel over seven miles down before they reached the bottom. Then, gravity would keep them from floating back to the top!

The largest commercial cargo airplane in the world is almost 300’ wide and can weigh as much as 640 tons at takeoff. As the gigantic Antonov-225 travels down the two mile runway, a law greater than the law of gravity can take over-the “law of lift.” As enough air travels over the wings and flaps the “law of lift” supersedes the “law of gravity” and seemingly a miracle takes place as the monster plane flies.

An even greater wonder is how a person is lifted from the weights and shackles of a regretful past that consistently attempts to hold them down and keep them from rising up to the heights God has planned for them. Similarly, the “law of sin and death” is like the “law of gravity,” while the “law of the Spirit of Life” is like the “law of lift’ in the life of a Christ Follower. Paul wrote in Romans 8:2, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.”

It does not matter how deep of a hole you’ve allowed yourself to fall into, how heavy a load you feel you are carrying right now, or how strong the pull of the “law of sin and death” is in you. The grace, forgiveness, and cleansing that comes through faith in Jesus Christ sets into a motion “the law of the Spirit” in your life. If you’ve been out of fellowship with Jesus Christ or need encouragement, reconnect with a Christ-centered church this week. If you don’t have one, try The Palms Church.
