With the recent countywide population growth, area roadways are making headlines for being over capacity and rightfully earning the “failed road” designation.
Bloomingdale Ave. in southeastern Hillsborough County is no exception.
Nearly six miles long and one of the busiest roadways in the County, Bloomingdale Ave., between US 301 and Lithia Pinecrest Rd., has recently found itself on another list that did not make things any better.
The list was released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office naming the top intersections for accidents for just a one month period; the month of April.
While the intersection of Palm River Rd. and 78th St. topped the list of most accidents (14) Bloomingdale Ave. made the list multiple times posting a high number of accidents crossing US 301, Kings Ave., Bryan Rd., Providence Rd., and Gornto Lake Rd. totaling 43 crashes for April.
Although not on the list, the intersection of Bloomingdale Ave. and Bell Shoals Rd. is by no means spared from being mentioned as it has earned the necessity to be one of just seven Red Light cameras now in use throughout the County.
After also factoring in the high number of fender-benders that are plaguing the now infamous roadway, motorists that are routinely making use of Bloomingdale Ave. are clearly enduring a daily travel nightmare at least during rush hour traffic.
Digital message boards and high visibility enforcement posted by HCSO are constant features targeting many of the areas in hopes of reducing traffic violations and accidents.
Commenting on the traffic problems in his district, Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White said that he is “anxiously awaiting the results of a recent east and west corridor study” focusing on such roadways as Bloomingdale Ave.
