If you have a child between the ages of five and 18, and they would like to try a creative, unique and arts filled summer camp, then the Winthrop Arts’ Art Factory Summer Camp is a perfect fit for them. The Art Factory Summer Camp will run for three weeks in the month of June beginning on Monday, June 4. Camp will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Campers can choose to attend one week or all three. Each camp is priced at $80 per camper. There is no registration fee, and the cost includes all materials, snacks and a free t-shirt (one per camper). Campers are divided by age and space is limited.
Campers will have the opportunity to become immersed in art as they spend three weeks working with professional artists. They will work with different mediums to create one-of-a kind artwork. This year, the theme of the Art Factory Summer Camp is Use Your Imagination.
During week one (June 4-8), campers will work with Bryant Martinez, the Winthrop Town Artist and Lead Instructor at the Art Factory to create an imaginary carousel in front of the Art Factory. Martinez said, “We have always wanted to install an old-fashioned carousel at Winthrop. Now, we will get the chance to do just that.”
During the second week (June 11-15) campers will again work with Martinez to design, create and install a public art piece on Winthrop property. This year, campers will create small pieces that will come together to form a larger mixed media mural featuring indigenous animals and flowers.
During the third week (June 18-22), campers will work with other Art Factory Instructors, including Amy Estes, to create works of art using fabric. Campers will make unique items such as flags, canopies and lawn sails. They will learn creative techniques such as sewing, stitching and printmaking.
Younger children (ages five to seven) will work to create similar projects but on a smaller scale with more emphasis on take home arts and crafts items.
Last year was the first year that Winthrop Arts offered the Art Factory Summer Camp, and it filled up quickly. To register your child or to get more information on this year’s Summer Camp, please visit www.winthroparts.org, or call 758-5161 or email info@winthroparts.org.
