The employees of the Plant City Division of Kerry, Inc., a privately held taste and nutrition company, have begun an environmental community project. On Monday, March 26, employees from Kerry, Inc., located at 1111 W. Dr. MLK, Jr. Blvd. in Plant City, conducted a park clean up at the Dr. Hal and Lynn Brewer Park in Plant City.
Employees spent close to two hours and collected 54 pounds of trash. The Dr. Hal and Lynn Brewer Park is a 10.5 acre park that is heavily used by area walkers and bird watchers. Susie Brown, Plant Manager at the Kerry, Inc. facility said, “It feels great to give back to our little town as we have been a part of the Plant City manufacturing community for 63 years.”
Recreation and Parks Director Jack Holland said, “The Kerry volunteers did a fantastic job at the park, and we really appreciate their effort.” Holland added, “Kerry is setting a worthy example for our community and helping keep our city a great place to work, live and play. We look forward to Kerry’s future involvement with our park system.”
The City of Plant City Recreation and Parks Department has over 700 acres of park land. The Department welcomes involvement from corporations, civic clubs and individuals.
The Kerry, Inc. environmental community project is done in conjunction with the company’s journey to obtain their ISO 14001 Certification. ISO 14001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system. It provides a framework that an organization can follow, rather than establishing performance requirements.
Kerry, which is a global company, is getting its sites certified as it works to be a world leader in operating with a sound, sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. Kerry has established targets that it wishes to meet by 2020 to reduce the company’s overall output or use of carbon, water and waste. The ultimate goal for Kerry is to be zero waste to landfill.
The next clean up for the Kerry team will be Monday, May 21.
