Writing and publishing a book is no easy feat, but local seven-year-old Christian Patrick is no ordinary first grader. Along with his grandfather, Patrick Carberry, they co-authored an adventure book that is sure to take its readers on a fun-filled exploration.
PaPa and Christian’s Great Adventures – The Treasure Awaits! tells the story of how young Christian is helping his PaPa do yard work when he moves a rock and finds a treasure map. The treasure awaits, but it is hiding. PaPa and Christian begin their quest by following the map and trying to find the buried treasure. This is the first of many great adventures that PaPa and Christian share.
Carberry and Christian were inspired to write this book because of the many exciting adventures they share spending quality time together. Carberry is an army veteran who works for the government. He spends his spare time with his family and runs a family-based nonprofit called Joshuacord.org, which helps persecuted Christians in the Middle East and Africa.
“I was inspired [to write the book] by my grandson who has a love for adventure and curiosity,” said Carberry. “Writing the book was a wonderful experience.”
Christian is not only an adventure-seeking first-grade student and a first-time author, but he and his grandfather have plans to turn their adventures into a series of books. In his spare time, some of Christian’s favorite things to do are to sing and to spend time with his grandfather.
“I like anything that I do with my PaPa,” said Christian. “We may write about our camping and fishing adventures next.”
Carberry hopes this book inspires families to find adventures of their own and spend time together having fun. The book targets audience ranging from 5-10 years old and is an excellent book for grandparents and grandchildren to read together.
“I encourage anyone with a young child to read the book,” said Carberry. “I look forward to working on other children’s books with my creative grandson.”
