“If you’re not using Magic, your house probably looks tragic” is the motto of Magic Power Washing Inc.
Tom Ross started the business in 1999 because he wanted to try something different from his previous work in the aerial lift business. He has lived in Florida most of his life, going to Largo High School, then attending college at St. Pete College and Florida State University.
The Riverview resident has power washed just about everything, including the 55,000 sq. ft. USF Sun Dome. Ross met his wife, Carmen, in the early 80s at USF where he worked previously. Years later, the Sun Dome was the first power washing job that got his business started.
Ross has a lot of experience with power washing. Earlier in his career he worked on bigger projects such as large buildings, condos at the beach, multipurpose facilities, condo complexes, the helicopter pad at the Home Shopping Network, every building on the campus of HSN several times and the majority of MacDill Air Force Base. Now he prefers to do just one house at a time. “When I come out there, I’m bringing all of that experience from many years of commercial work and I bring it into a small situation and really clean the house,” said Ross.
Ross is a family man. He also loves spending time with his Maltese, Mork, who he says is the greatest dog that’s ever lived. Ross hopes that his son, Erik Ross, will someday take over his company. Erik, 23, has been helping his father with jobs for several years and he knows the business. “I expect there to be a Ross washing in the Riverview area for a long time to come,” said Ross.
For the last five years on Halloween, Tom has hosted a dance party at the Riverview Chamber of Commerce. Guests come in costumes and have a fun time. “Everybody; get ready for my fifth annual dance party coming up,” said Ross. “It’s going to be the biggest and best ever.”
