Former Brandon resident Lynne Moore is returning to the area next month to promote her books, Refined Sugar: Memoir of a Storyteller and Hey Lady!
Moore, who lived in Brandon beginning in 1965, will be at Bill’s Prescription Center in November discussing her books and also plans to host a lecture and book signing the same day at the Brandon Regional Library.
“Refined sugar is a major product of Louisiana; Refined Suga is the story of the author’s life, a trilogy set in Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Lousianna, New York, Minnesota and Maryland,” said Moore, a retired art therapist, ballroom dance teacher and scuba instructor.
During her time as a Brandon resident, Moore was active at the Brandon Swim and Tennis Club (now the Brandon Sports and Aquatics Club, BSAC), her six children attended Nativity Catholic School and she was also one of the founding members of the Brandon Art League.
“I was instrumental in establishing the Brandon Little Theater, which became the Village Players, and served at the group’s first president,” she said, adding that her married name at the time was Mouton.
Refined Sugar, is the first in Moore’s book trilogy which also includes Hey Lady!, which she expects to be published this month and The French Resolution which should be published by the end of the year.
According to Moore, Refined Suga, which was released in April, tells the story of an unwanted baby abandoned in New Orleans in 1914.
“This is her story, which offers a glimpse into the life of an overprotected child who is reminded regularly by her benefactor that she must be grateful because nobody wanted her,” said Moore. “She struggles to overcome the stigma and evolves into an accomplished mother of six. Through years of challenges, including a horrendous accident, a nomad lifestyle and a husband with a wandering eye, she dusts off an old skill, learns new ones and inspires her offspring.”
Hey Lady!, the second book in the series focuses on Suga’s marriage to Robert DuMouchel and the addition of six additional children to the family.
