Essential oils can be traced back to 1000 A.D., when mechanical presses or steam were used to extract oils from individual plants. Over the last decade, essential oils have risen in popularity. People can rub oils on the skin, or they can diffuse them into the air where they bind to smell receptors to stimulate the central nervous system. Some oils can even be ingested.
No one knows the helpfulness of these essential oils better than Kimberly Lee, who has lived in the Brandon/Valrico area since 1962. Lee, a well-known piano teacher, has been giving piano lessons for 35 years from her piano studio located at 1339 Oakfield Dr. in Brandon. In 2014, Lee was invited to an Essential Oils Of The Bible class by one of her piano clients.
“I loved the presentation and felt God leading me to start an essential oils business,” said Lee, a doTERRA Gold Wellness Advocate. “So I had my first class in May 2014 and started my team.”
Essential oils can be found in bark, seeds, stems, roots, flowers and other parts of plants. In addition to their fundamental benefits to plants as well as being fragrant, essential oils can be beneficial in a variety of ways to humans. One recent study of 300 patients found that those who inhaled a mixture of ginger, spearmint, peppermint and cardamom experienced a decrease in nausea after surgery. Research has also shown that lavender oil can lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and inhaling lemongrass aroma was shown to help with anxiety. Some studies also indicate that tea tree and oregano oils can fight certain microbes, making them an alternative treatment of such things as dandruff and athlete’s foot.
Lee explained that doTERRA sources more than 96 percent of its oils from farms exclusive to doTERRA.
“This allows the quality of the oils to be the best in the world since the crops are grown in the environment that is best suited for the high standards doTERRA has for each oil and product,” said Lee. “No pesticides or chemicals are used on the crops.”
doTERRA prides itself in the consistency of its oils due to extensive testing, both on-site and in the labs at corporate headquarters, it is also tested by a third party company.
“Many of the oils are safe to ingest and provide a myriad of therapeutic benefits,” said Lee. “The oils used for aromatherapy are incredible and help with a variety of emotional issues.”
Lee’s team specializes in educating their clients on the safest and most effective ways to use doTERRA products.
“We do this with a variety of classes we offer in the studio several days a week,” said Lee. “We also offer private consultations to help our clients. We have every oil and product on display so clients can try them before they purchase.”
Potential new clients can text 453-2879, and Lee will offer a complimentary wellness consultation including an iTOVI scan and a customized sample. (Must not be a current doTERRA customer or working with another Wellness Advocate.)
