Achieving greater financial security and independence is a goal that to many people may seem like a good idea, but also hard to do without a lot of time to do research, not to mention all the fees that can eat away at investment gains.
Don Pearson, president of Pearson Financial, Inc., offers another approach, which is to invest through his firm and the only fees to be paid are a management fee of one percent on assets over $1,500 and $6.95 per trade, which is levied by TD Ameritrade through which transactions are made.
“If your portfolio goes up, we get paid more,” he said. “If it doesn’t, we don’t.”
Pearson is a Registered Investment Advisor, which he said carries with it the obligation to put client interests above his own.
“I need to give you things that are best for you. A broker decides based on their interests.”
Unlike many personal financial advising firms that may require large sums of money to invest with, Pearson’s clients can start with whatever they can afford.
“We have no minimums,” said Ann Hathaway, account manager at Pearson Capital for the past 15 years. “We encourage people to start with anything they can.”
Every day may seem like Christmas when your financial house is in order, but when the holiday comes around each year, Pearson and Hathaway are coordinating the collection of goods for the annual Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign in the SouthShore area.
Over the last 15 years, Pearson and Hathaway have grown the drive into a major joy-giver for kids in Hillsborough County. They started out with 25 collection boxes in the SouthShore area and now there are 100 of them. According to Hathaway their most recent drive garnered more than 6,000 toys (100 of them bicycles) and more than $9,000 in cash donations.
In recognition of the work Pearson Capital does on behalf of the Toys for Tots campaign, the SouthShore Chamber of Commerce gave a Special Recognition Award to Pearson in January for his sponsorship of the annual SouthShore Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive.
